System Signal Conversion Is Made Simple with Extron's USP 405 Universal Signal Processor

Anaheim, California (April 8, 2002) – Extron Electronics is pleased to introduce the USP 405 Universal Signal Processor. The USP 405 is a one-box solution for all your video signal conversion needs. The USP 405 is like several products in one box with a high performance scaler, scan converter, transconverter, and transcoder. The USP 405 accepts a wide range of video input signals and transcodes them or converts them up or down into a number of different signal formats to meet the video signal requirements of virtually any system. For example, the USP 405 is the ideal solution for taking in multiple video signal formats, processing them, and outputting them in one format directly to a digital projector. The applications for the USP 405 are virtually limitless and include rental and staging environments, boardrooms, conference rooms, classrooms, auditoriums, and many more. The USP 405 accepts many types of inputs, including: RGB, HDTV component, S-video, composite, and optional SDI (Serial Digital Interface) video signal formats—either NTSC or PAL. Video signals that are input as component, S-video, composite, and SDI can be transcoded by the USP 405 and output on all video connectors in each format simultaneously. These video signals can also be scaled to one of 35 resolutions and output on 15-pin HD connectors and BNCs. There are five video inputs on the USP 405 (with the optional SDI input), accessible through the rear panel: one female 15-pin HD connector for RGB/computer video (includes a buffered local monitor output); five female BNCs for RGBHV component video (Y, R-Y, B-Y); S-video, or composite video; 4-pin mini DIN for S-video; one female BNC for composite video; and one female BNC for the optional SDI video. To maximize the quality of the output image, the USP 405 features several of Extron's proprietary scaling technologies: Dynamic Motion Interpolation (DMI™) is an advanced motion detection and compensation method used to deliver the best aspects of still and motion algorithms at once; and 3:2 pulldown detection for NTSC/2:2 pulldown for PAL is a patent-pending advanced film mode processing technique that maximizes image detail and sharpness for NTSC/PAL materials that originated from film. This universal signal processor comes with an easy-to-read LCD menu and back-lit, tactile buttons to simplify operation and control. Remote control is available through the optional Extron IR 801.
